Abstract

Filariosis caused by nematodes of the family Filariidae is a serious medico-social problem due to the complex life cycle of pathogens, diversity of clinical manifestations and diagnostic difficulties. In the Russian Federation, dirofilariosis is of greatest importance, while other types of filariasis are mainly found in tropical and subtropical regions, affecting mostly indigenous populations in hard-to-reach areas. Modern approaches to treatment include a complex of pharmacological, surgical and preventive measures with mandatory consideration of specific characteristics of the parasite and individual patient characteristics such as age, comorbidity background and epidemiological anamnesis. This differentiated approach increases the effectiveness of treatment, reduces the risk of complications and prevents drug resistance. The data obtained are of great practical importance and can be used to develop clinical recommendations for the management of patients with filariasis.
