A study was carried out of the mosquito fauna of the focus of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis in the city of Mubarek, Kashkadarya region of the Republic of Uzbekistan, where dozens of cases of this parasitosis are reported annually. Diptera were caught in 2022 and 2023 using sticky sheets of paper both in the territory of households within the city, where cases of leishmaniasis were observed, and in the desert on colonies of great gerbils located in the immediate vicinity of Mubarek. A total of 7 species of mosquitoes were recorded. As a result, it was established that the species Phlebotomus papatasi, the main carrier of the causative agent of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (48.8 %), as well as P. sergenti (34.4 %), the main carrier of the causative agent of anthroponotic cutaneous leishmaniasis, dominated within the city, but in the study area there were no cases of this disease was not noted. The remaining five species accounted for less than 17 %. In the burrows of the great gerbil, the most common species were P. caucasicus (31.1 %), P. andrejevi (24.3 %) and P. papatasi (22.4 %). The species P. mongolensis, P. alexandri and Sergentomyia grecovi were much less common (2-9 %). Males predominated in the collections (66.3-75.7 %). Breeding sites for dipterans within the city are mainly livestock buildings and barns.
Under laboratory conditions, resistance to insecticides from various chemical classes of several strains of Musca domestica housefly obtained from populations collected at facilities in the Moscow and Kaluga regions was assessed. It has been established that when applied topically, houseflies of both strains are highly resistant to cypermethrin (RR=500–900×), fipronil (RR=46–75×), thiamethoxam and clothianidin (RR=100–333×), fluralaner (RR=300–2100×), susceptible to chlorpyrifos (RR=0.6–1.4×), indoxacarb (RR=0.24–1.46×) and chlorfenapyr (RR=0.25–0.33×). After breeding in an insectarium without an insecticide press for 50–52 generations, the resistance of Kaluga and Krasnogorsk strains decreased to cypermethrin by 3.0 and 8.3 times; to fipronil by 6.0 and 5.3 times, respectively. Susceptibility to chlorpyrifos remained on the same level. In the Kaluga strain resistance to thiamethoxam increased by 1.7 times, to clothianidin by 2.4 times, while in the Krasnogorsk strain, resistance to these neonicotinoids decreased by 6.3 and 5.8 times, respectively. To indoxacarb and chlorfenapyr, the Kaluga strain became more resistant — by 4.2 and 7.6 times, and the Krasnogorsk strain — by 3.0 and 6.4 times. Determination of the susceptibility of strains to these proinsecticides, carried out on flies of 2–3 generations, demonstrated that susceptibility was on several times higher than for the S-NIID strain. After 2 years, the susceptibility of the strains to indoxacarb and chlorfenapyr decreased and approached that of the S-NIID strain. It is suggested that this fact is associated with the initially higher activity of monooxigenases in resistant F3 flies compared to F52. Increased level of monooxigenases in resistant insects leads to the rapid oxidation of the proinsecticide and its transformation into an active metabolite. The mechanisms of resistance of the house fly to insecticides are discussed.
Objective: to evaluate necessity of surveillance over invasion rate of blood sucking mosquitoes with Dirofilaria spp. in central part of the Khabarovsk krai.
Materials and methods: a total number of 2979 female species of Culex, Anopheles, Aedes mosquitoes were captured during June, July and August in the Dada village of the Nanaysky district of the Khabarovsk krai. Captured mosquitoes were tested for presence of Dirofilaria immitis and Dirofilaria repens DNA with two methods: real-time polymerase chain reaction and polymerase chain reaction with amplification of products using species-specific primers and detection of the products in gel electrophoresis.
Results: Evaluation of dirofilaria life cycle revealed that in May there is not enough heat for development of the invasive stage of dirofilaria, 3 cycles of invasion are possible in June, 7 cycles - in July, and 5 cycles – in August.
Dirofilaria DNA was identified during all summer months. Should be noted that there was no statistically significant difference between mosquitoes invasion rate with Dirofilaria immitis (2.5 %) и Dirofilaria repens (2.1 %).
Conclusion: Circulation of dirofilariosis pathogens is possible not only in south part but also in central part of the Khabarovsk krai due to favorable climate conditions for development of microfilaria life cycle in bloodsucking mosquitoes during summer period. The results indicate a necessity of surveillance over invasion rate of blood-sucking mosquitoes with Dirofilaria spp in the observed territory.
In the period 2016-2022, 351 fecal samples of the Bering Arctic fox were studied (winter season - 96 samples, summer - 173, spring - 82) and 11 intestinal samples using the method of incomplete helminthological dissections, as well as 104 specimens of red-backed vole liver (24 specimens were caught in the autumn). winter period, 80 - in summer). The infestation of the Arctic fox with E. multilocularis, according to the results of fecal ovoscopy, ranges from 20-21% in the spring-winter to 1.3% in the summer, according to the results of the autopsy - 18.2%, with very low rates of invasion intensity. Infection of voles with E. multilocularis larvocysts 14.4%. Bering Island can be considered endemic for E. multilocularis, where the natural island focus of the pathogen operates stably.
The leading role in the diagnosis of echinococcosis is played by instrumental methods (ultrasound, X-ray examinations, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging), however, immunological methods are no less important for choosing treatment tactics for patients, predicting the development of relapses and assessing the quality of surgical treatment, the effectiveness of anti-relapse and conservative therapy. Currently, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is widely used in the Russian Federation to determine specific immunoglobulins of class G (IgG) to Echinococcus granulosus antigens. The paper presents the results of an analysis of the diagnostic value of ELISA and immunoblotting (IB) for diagnosing echinococcosis and monitoring the effectiveness of treatment. The ELISA method examined 1651 blood serum samples using the Echinococcus-IgG-ELISA-BEST test system (manufactured by Vector-Best, Novosibirsk), 227 samples were also examined using a similar test system for ELISA "HYDATIDOSIS ELISA IgG", manufactured by VIRCELL Spain S.L.U, SantaFe, Granada. 66 ELISA-positive serum samples were examined by immunoblotting. The study was carried out using the Echinococcus IgG Immunoblot kit, produced by EUROIMMUN. The results of the study showed that ELISA with echinococcosis antigen is effective for diagnosing echinococcosis. The imported analogue of the ELISA test system has no advantages over the domestic one. The immunoblotting method showed the best performance for diagnosing echinococcosis.
The article presents data on the epidemiological situation on the incidence of echinococcosis among residents of the Nookat district of the Osh region of the Kyrgyz Republic (KR), and also analyzes the dynamics of incidence for the period 2000-2022. In the Nookat district of Osh region, the average long-term intensive incidence rate of echinococcosis per 100 thousand population was 15.7, with a minimum value of 6.0 (in 2008) and a maximum of 22.5 (in 2016). The average long-term intensive incidence rate of alveococcosis per 1000 population was 1.2, with a minimum value of 0.1 (in 2013) and a maximum of 2.7 (in 2022). The highest incidence of echinococcosis in the Nookat district was observed among residents of the villages of Zhany-Nookat, Zulpuev and Toolos - 12.9%, 8.8% and 7.5%, respectively, as well as in the villages of Isanova and Kyrgyz-Ata and Kenesh - 7.5% and 6.6%.
A survey of water bodies of different hydrological regimes in 7 provinces of Central Vietnam was conducted for the presence of larvae of Bithyniidae molluscs and fish infested with trematode pathogens. Biotopes of Bithynia siamensis goniomphalos molluscs were found in rice fields, bypass canals and small rivers with low flow. No molluscs infested with Opisthorchis viverrini larvae were found. In fish, metacercariae of this helminth were found only in Puntius brevis in a community pond. Other fish in the surveyed natural water bodies were infested only with intestinal trematodes. It is reasonable to assume that circulation of the opisthorchiasis pathogen in wildlife is practically absent. Therefore, opisthorchiasis in the surveyed areas can be classified as a zooanthroponosis and its foci are located in fish farms and private water bodies of community farms. This determines the prevalence of opistorchiasis among the population in the lower reaches of rivers in the coastal provinces.
REVIEW
The analysis of data on arthropod resistance to insecticides based on the database of the University of Michigan (APRD) was carried out. Arthropods have already developed resistance to 349 chemical compounds, and more than 17,000 cases of resistance have been described among 612 arthropod species. It was revealed that the most extensive in terms of the number of described cases of resistance (2,265) is the Diptera order, including 71% in the field of medical pest control. 187 insecticide-resistant species of Diptera have been described including 149 species of medical significance (74%). Data on the level of resistance of a number of arthropod species in Russia are presented, as well as basic IRAC rotation schemes based on the alternation of pesticides in accordance with the group number according to their mechanism of action and aimed at minimizing the development of resistance to a particular chemical group.
CASE REPORTES
Infection by the Dibothriocephalus sp. (Diphyllobothrium sp.) Linnaeus, 1758 remains an urgent problem of medical services, including the Perm Territory. At the same time, descriptions of pathological and anatomical changes at this helminthiasis are few in the literature, in connection with which, each lethal case is of considerable interest. Materials of an autopsy of the corpse of a 49-year-old woman who died due to intestinal obstruction with pronounced vascular changes in the intestinal walls are presented. Material preparation is performed using standard techniques, staining was preformed with hematoxylin-eosin. Acute vascular intestinal deficiency, severe edema and small focal hemorrhages of the mucous membrane and submucosal layer of the intestinal wall, cellular infiltrates of an inflammatory nature were installed. Perivascular focal cardiosclerosis, diffuse cardiosclerosis was noted as a result of vascular disorders of a chronic nature in the myocardium due to the presence of vascular pathology. Parenchymatous protein dystrophy of myocardial, kidneys and liver was a consequence of chronic intoxication of the body with the products of the life of helminth. The results obtained during histological examination expand the existing ideas about the pathological picture for diphyllobothriasis.
